A perfect summer family vacation

Our time at Chilmark Hideaway will be remembered fir a very long time. My wife and I spent the week there with our American children and 3 granddaughters in the great comfort of this wonderful property. The olde world comfort of the house and garden, the gourmet kitchen and the great beach access were appreciated. The ability to be part of the Martha’s community for a week was very special! ”

Fantastic Vacation

The Chilmark Hideaway was the perfect location for a family vacation on Martha's Vineyard. Peter was incredibly helpful arranging for car ferry reservations and advising us on island information, including hiking trails, beach passes and great restaurants. The house is well-appointed with everything we needed for cooking seafood feasts as well as towels, beach chairs and a verdant garden generously offered up for use by the host. The house slept everyone comfortably and had lovely views of Menemsha Harbor. I will forever treasure drifting off to sleep with the offshore breezes bringing the soft ringing of the harbour buoy to our bedroom window. ”

A great spot for "R & R"

The Chilmark Hideaway is a lovely home, and Peter Maghee, the owner, communicated beautifully throughout the process. He could not have been more accommodating. We had an early June week which was a short time before the influx of Vineyard visitors. As a result Menemsha, a very quiet part of the island, was even quieter, and a large percentage of the very few local restaurants were not yet open for the season. The entry to the house was long and very primitive, which suited us well, but might not be everyone's "cup of tea." He personalized our arrival by having our name on a painted sign at the entrance - a very nice touch. The house itself is charming and it has a stellar chef's kitchen with all of the wares to make it very convenient for those staying. There was a charcoal Weber grill for barbecuing; however, having a small gas grill as well might provide a good alternative and eliminate the need to head off to purchase charcoal. The television was DIRECTV, which sounds great on the surface, but it doesn't have some of the cable and sports channels that we would have enjoyed when the weather was inclement. That said, the book inventory was excellent, and it was a very cozy spot to settle back and immerse ourselves in reading. The distance from the busy part of the island was a full 30 minutes away, and our feeling was that the house would be ideal for visitors who are looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and a taste of New England. Beautiful and serene setting

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chilmark Hideaway, which is located on a quiet side of the island. There is a lovely walk that takes you to the beach, fish markets and a cafe where you can enjoy coffee. It is such fun to watch the busy harbor, and we went out on a fishing charter and brought home dinner. The home is well equipped and very comfortable, and the views are simply beautiful. We met the owner who graciously answered our questions, and his brother who lives in the house next door. We explored many spots on the island and were always happy to return "home" to this lovely spot. As an aside, this part of the island is "dry" so if you enjoy a glass of wine you will want to pick that up at a store near the airport or in other parts of the island. You can bring a bottle to a restaurant -- it seems to be quite the norm here. ”

Warm and Welcoming Menemsha Home

We had a lovely Fall wedding weekend in this beautiful home. The owners were extremely helpful and informative about the Island. Martha's Vineyard is lovely this time of year and almost everything is still open for the season. We would love to return. Thanks 3rd Home!”

Charming well-loved cottage overlooking the sea

We are frequent visitors to Menemsha by sailboat and staying at this charming, welcoming home has more than made up for the fact that due to surgery, we were not able to sail this year. Just as pictured, the home is spacious and comfortable and just what you'd expect a cozy beach house to be. The owner, Peter, has been very attentive to our emails and questions. It is necessary to get a car ferry reservation to be way out here on this end of Martha's Vineyard. We had dinner at the Beach Plum Inn down the road which was excellent and tonight we will bring in cooked lobsters and steamers from Larsen's. Fiddlehead Farm and Chilmark General Store aren't far for excellent farm produce, cheeses and pies. There is a path to Menemsha beach and we will buy passes to the Lucy Vincent beach which is a long stretch (for renters/owners only) that we see from our back deck. The view from the master bedroom above the trees is breathtaking. We would be happy to come back any time.”

Unfortunately I wasn't able to visit the Chilmark Hideaway and had to cancel at the last minute. Hope to visit in the future as the communication and information for the house and transportation to the island were very beneficial in planning. ”

Martha's Vineyard Charm

What a wonderful Martha's Vineyard retreat and experience. The home is located on a bluff overlooking the water. It is warm and inviting. It has a wonderful kitchen, great art, photos and mementos from the area. Menemsha is a peaceful fishing village with an excellent fish market - Larsen's Fish Market. It is just a short 5 minute walk to the beach. It a very quiet, restful, location. Thank you for a great week. ”

Vacation Bliss

We had a wonderful family vacation in Martha's Vineyard. This secluded home is a quiet paradise. The well outfitted kitchen was a dream to cook up the fresh seafood from the docks 5 minutes away.
