August 2014Welcome to paradise
Staying at Taman Wana is like stepping into another world. Once you open the door to your beautiful, traditional Balinese style villa compound you might not want to leave. We had loads of space, loved the 20 m pool (such a beautiful setting that it was a pleasure to do my 1 km swim each day) and the lush tropical garden. Rooms are spacious and traditionally furnished along with mosquito nets ( there is no malaria in Bali but it's still nice to avoid the bites). The morning crew arrived each day to clean and make beds and the night crew set us up each evening with mosquito coils and turning the beds down. Nothing was too much trouble for the delightful staff who are very ready to make food, organise trips, do maintenance, carry shopping etc. There are a few very minor things which it would be good for mgmt to sort out to make this absolutely perfect ( torn sheets, towels not replaced) but overall I recommend this very highly. In terms of location, we were 5 mins walk to the beach - usually deserted and with fantastic waves - and 10-20 mins walk to lots of food and spa places. We walked to Seminyak proper one evening. It's not far but the lack of pavements and alarming driving makes it a but hairy, As for the rest of Bali, we had a couple of cultural days out ($50 for an English speaking driver and air conditioned car for the day) and a trip to the deserted national park island in the opposite corner of the island where we shared the beech with deer and monkeys. A fabulous holiday, hope to go back in next few years”
