A WEEK OF REST & RELAXATION

We traveled to Roatan in the middle of December, staying at the Grand Roatan and what a nice trip it was!! When we arrived at the airport we had a van pick us up, the driver introduced himself and off we went to West Bay Beach. The driver brought our bags all the way to our door after we checked in at the front desk. He also informed us he would be happy to take us around the island with short notice of an hour or so. The house is well appointed with a large kitchen and three very clean bedrooms! The view from the family room and patio are of the ocean and beautiful landscaping. We can’t say enough about Terry and the staff at The Grand Roatan, they made our stay that much more enjoyable.. I would highly recommend a croissant and coffee on the beach! What more can you ask for? The food at the Grand Roatan was all very good - try the Jalapeno sea bass and the seafood soup! Both are simply amazing. We snorkeled each day and sometimes more than once. The second largest barrier reef in the world is at your finger tips at West Bay Beach. Enter the water just to cool off and you are surrounded by beautiful tropical fish. We took a water taxi to West End and had a nice afternoon of exploring that side of the island - try the delicious chicken @ Rotisserie Chicken. We recommend the water taxis as opposed to a drive in the car. The fishermen are knowledgeable about the island and the locals and keep you entertained during your water taxi ride, the cost was around $3.00 per person. The weather in December can be spotty so bring a good book to enjoy (they had a great book “To Hold The Sun” by Chas Watkins in the unit). If you are looking to decompress with walks on the beach and fine dining experiences, you will not be disappointed in West Bay Beach! We enjoyed our stay immensely thanks to Roger, the owner of our unit. He took the time to discuss the local places to visit and help us set our expectations for a great week. Beautiful Week Diving in the Caribbean!

Wow, where do I begin? My family and I had an amazing trip together. There were 4 of us (ages 21, 25, 25, and 28) who traveled to Roatan during the second week in November. Staying at the Grand Roatan on West Bay Beach was such a pleasant place to be for a week. The accommodations and people made everything so comfortable, convenient, worry free, and enjoyable. To start, the Grand Roatan had a van pick us up and drop us off at the airport (which was a short ride maybe 15-20min) so we didn’t have to worry about any cabs. For the rest of the week the front desk girls took care of everything we needed. From booking excursions to finding local food spots, they were always so pleasant and excited to help (and 24/7 too!). Definitely a plus when spending a week in a place none of us had ever been. As for the rest of the staff, they were nothing short of great as well. They made us feel like we were staying at a close friends place. Aside from always helping with questions we had, each bartender, server, and cook knew who we were and made it a priority to say hi and ask how our day was. I can’t thank them enough for being so friendly and open with us. Their restaurant on the beach easily had the best food on all of West Bay. We each tried everything on the menu, and there wasn’t one thing we didn’t like. I highly recommend you try the jalapeño seabass and the ribs! We could have eaten these the whole trip. Also, the Bananarama has great pizza just down the beach. If you are thirsty, ask for a Dirty Monkey Lala. They also had great 2-for-1’s form 5-7pm. The Grand Roatan villas are great as well, and just what we needed. We stayed in a 3-bed, 3-bath ground level unit. It was the perfect size with kings in every room, and the rooms were always the perfect temperature. It rained about 1.5 days, so we relaxed inside the first rainy day (much needed) and caught up on some great movies (lots of movie channels). Also, it was great being so close to the pool and spa – we used these everyday and night! The view from the pool is beautiful, and at night everything is lit up perfectly. Another great thing about the Grand Roatan is how close it is to the water and the section of the beach it’s on. Tucked right at the end of West Bay Beach, it was the perfect spot for us – private, yet active. This part of the beach was the best section for snorkeling as well (which we did for 2 days straight). Such a beautiful coral to explore with stunning drop offs! We saw lots of different fish and even a little octopus! A short walk down the beach took us to everything else we needed – other food, scuba diving, and water taxis. *As a side note, use water taxis anytime you can until about 5pm. They are only 3 dollars per person to get to West End (little town with great nightlife, and fun daily shopping). We went scuba diving with at a dive shop called Anemona Divers. Just like the Grand, they were the nicest people to be with. Maria runs a great shop and our dive master Cheyenne was the best. He knew so much and took us to the best places. He has lived and dived on the island his whole life. I will close with this. If you love to dive, relax on the beach, and eat great food – then stay at the Grand Roatan Resort. Great place for a family and/or friend vacation. It was nothing short of amazing.
