A great stay despite some confusion

A wonderful stay at Camdeboo Manor. The team and the guides were amazing. The food and wine were perfect. The game drives were so unique and different from the traditional drives we have been on at other safari’s in Kruger. The views are tremendous. A different location but well worth the visit. We had some confusion on arrival as the large main villa that we expected to stay in and had reserved, had other guests In it. We were lucky to be a smaller group and were hosted at another lodge in the resort. It was very nice and resolved the little mix up. This is my only reason for not awarding 5 stars.”

Spectacular - a hidden gem of the Karoo!

This property was even more beautiful than expected! The house and the rooms are beautifully furnished and decorated - every little detail has been thought through. The kitchen really is equipped for a chef... it's rare I find a kitchen that has everything I need and with plenty of countertop space and two fridges providing enough space for all the food and drinks for a week. The views from the top of the escarpment when you go on game drive, are absolutely spectacular - literally 360 views... a photographers dream with some of the most interesting and dramatic sunsets I've seen in a while. In addition to the Game Drives, we also went on a game walk with the ranger, which is a great option for the more adventurous. The staff were also a treat - expertly servicing the manor every day, and laying the table for meals, and even setting up the Boma or outdoor dining area when weather permitted. Don't miss out on a visit to the Valley of Desolation and the quaint, beautifully preserved historic town of Graaff Reinet. Dinner or lunch at the Drostdy Hotel is also recommended.”

One of those experiences that will stay with us for ever ....

We had the most wonderful stay at Mount Camdeboo - it is one of those experiences that will stay with us for ever ... the setting, the views, the stargazing, the staff and the most amazing animal encounters both on the game drives and right outside our door with baboons, warthogs, ostrich and nyala coming to say hello on a more or less daily basis. The manor house is large and luxurious with excellent indoor and outdoor space so that we could come together or find our own quiet place ... essential with four boys ranging from 9 to 17! We have been on safari before but to spend a week at Camdeboo with the time to get to know the place and the mix of animals was a different and a more meaningful experience. Dane our ranger took us out everyday - sometimes twice a day - and there was always something new to see. The rhino and cheetah encounters were very special. We opted for Camdeboo to cater for us - which is essential given that the nearest small supermarket is an hours drive away and, although expensive especially by South African standards, this added to our experience : the food was excellent, the staff professional - friendly and non at all intrusive and one of our group who was coeliac was very well looked after. Thank you to everyone at Camdeboo - we just loved our stay ....”

Cambedoo Manor - Trip of a Lifetime

We just returned from Mount Camdeboo, and my family unanimously agrees that this was the best trip we have ever taken. This is a bucket list trip for sure! Everything was first rate. The accommodations were incredible, an old farmhouse restored to perfection with a keen attention to detail. The pictures on the 3rd Home's website don't do it justice. The meals were delicious and the staff couldn't have been more attentive. What will be most memorable are the animals and the massive reserve. Over 35,000 acres, further than the eye can see, of varying terrains. The safari truck had no problem going up and down the mountains, some of which were over 4,000 ft high. Our guide Dane couldn't have been more knowledgable and informative, making each drive an adventure for us. Two game drives each day, early morning and late afternoon into evening (yes, you can see the animals at night). If you are into photography, you will be in for a treat. While we were able to get very close to some animals, I strongly suggest you bring a powerful telephoto lens. You should also splurge for a good pair of binoculars. Ian, the proprietor, was very gracious both prior and during our visit. It's apparent he has big plans to make Mount Camdeboo even bigger and better in years to come.
