Discover the beautiful and historic White Mountains of New Hampshire, in the uniquely delightful destination spot of Bretton Woods. With an iconic history dating back the early 1600's when sailors marveled at the white pale colors of this extraordinary mountain range (the highest peaks in the northeastern USA), and the great explorer Darby Field whose curiosity led him to first climb its 6288-ft peak that would later give its name as Mt Washington), intrigue for its natural beauty mystified everyone. Then, in the 1900's private railcars brought the elite from New York and Philadelphia desiring to escape the city for a serene vacation, and to this day, this natural jewel is still sought after by those in the know. World famous for its cog railway that leads to the top of Mt Washington, tens of thousands of adventurers come to hike, climb, ski and photograph it. The peak is part of the Presidential Range, whose peaks are named after early presidents, which merges into part of the White Mountain National Forest offering 770,000-acres of pristine paradise. Among the forests' scenic mountain passes and notches, one can find trailheads for short and longer multi-day hiking and other adventure activities - the top recommended musts are, visit to the Mt Washington Auto Museum and Gallery, its Cog Railway Transportation Site, Lost River Gorge in Kinsman Notch, the Conway Scenic Railroad, the Flume Gorge, the Hartmann Model Railroad Musem, and the Hobo Railroad of restored vintage train cars. Stroll through the enchanting village of Bethlehem, a lovely hamlet with notable distinctive arts and crafts sprinkled with Victorian and Colonial era homes. Explore the lovely historic village-town of Lancaster, the Old Man on the Mountain geological site, and the New England Ski Musuem - all worth seeing!
