Description

Nestled in the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, just outside the quintessentially English village of Castle Combe, lies The Lost Orangery at Euridge Manor. With its own roof terrace, croquet lawn, pretty boating lake, boat house and a man-made mound with a walkable path that circumvents the slope, the property offers guests incredible views of the local countryside and comfortably accommodates up to 4 guests.

The unique 2-bedroom Lost Orangery 'cottage' is part of explorer Sir Walter Raleigh’s old hunting lodge estate, hidden away between the city of Bath and Castle Combe; and provides a unique romantic retreat for two, a family haven or a bolthole for two couples.

The ’show stopping’ grounds were created by Julian and Isabel Bannerman – Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal Winners and the designers of the world renown gardens at Highgrove – who have created a quite whimsical English country garden - Houghton House and the British 9/11 Memorial Garden in New York. The Lost Orangery not only has its own private roof terrace overlooking the estate, but the owners want guests to enjoy their entire estate; from the Folly Mound to the tennis court and boating pond.

The living space consists of one stunning open plan space with a central long dining table by the grotto like fountain and with two separate seating areas at either end, in addition to the cosy stations in-between. Although the well-equipped kitchen is not large, it is ample and allows guests to easily prepare any sort of meal with all the modern appliances including electric oven, hob, fridge, freezer, even a washing machine and a dryer.

All the details of this pet-friendly property contribute to making the two bedrooms of this exclusive cottage as cosy as possible. Featuring showers in each bathroom, the two bedrooms have comfortable king-sized antique four poster beds and open to furnished patios.

With idyllic walks on the doorstep, easy access to the city of Bath, the Castle Combe Circuit and the Cotswolds, this is an ideal location for your next getaway. During your stay at this cottage you will be about 10 minutes by car from Manor House Golf Club, where the mature oak and beech trees that line the magnificent fairways together with the immaculate greens and the River Bybrook meandering through the middle bring both drama and beauty to this Championship course.

A short 30 minute drive will lead you to the city that gets its name from the famous Roman baths. Built for pleasure and relaxation, beautiful Bath has been a wellbeing destination since Roman times, and guests will have the opportunity to pamper themselves at the thoroughly modern Thermae Bath Spa, which houses the only natural thermal hot springs in Britain you can bathe in.

Take a tour through time and explore the only UK city designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Immerse yourself in Bath’s remarkable collection of museums and galleries, and enjoy year-round festivals, theatre, music and sports. Overflowing with places to eat and drink, with some of the finest independent shops in Britain, the city is famously full of attractions and activities. Wander through the pages of one of Austen’s classic novels as you stroll past mellow architectural masterpieces like the Royal Crescent and the Circus, or celebrate Bath's most famous resident at the Jane Austen Centre. Located in a beautiful Georgian building, the exhibition offers a snapshot of what it would be like to live in the Regency times.

Bath is also the ideal base for exploring nearby sites like the photogenic village of Lacock and Stonehenge’s mysterious megaliths. About an hour away from The Lost Orangery at Euridge Manor, guests will take in the unforgettable atmosphere of this World Heritage Site and best known prehistoric monument in Europe, and discover how the Stonehenge builders worked and walk amongst the Neolithic houses to experience how they lived.

A unique venue.

A lovely stay at an extraordinary venue. A very secluded unique place requiring a drive out to visit most places. The staff were very welcoming and a source of good information, Rick in particular was very helpful. The gardens are amazing and the staff are happy for you to wander freely. The kitchen is well appointed if a little small, we chose to eat in as we didn't fancy the drive out in the evenings and its best to take any basic provisions that may be required as its a long drive out for tea bags. There are some lovely walks from The Orangery and to local pubs in surrounding villages. The bedrooms are lovely and very warm. The main room was a little cold, but that was a temporary issue and Rick furnished us with heaters very quickly. I understand that the underfloor heating usually makes it cosy. The sauna is definitely worth trying and very enjoyable and relaxing. Just outside the front door. A very relaxing and enjoyable stay in a unique venue.”
