Hatchet Cove Hideaway
This charming four-bedroom, four-bathroom home is the ideal escape for anyone desiring peace, quiet, and the calmness that only a secluded waterfront property could deliver. It’s tucked away in Friendship, Maine—a small town located on a peninsula that protrudes into the Gulf of Maine. While the town itself is quaint, it preserves its maritime heritage and offers great opportunities for nature enthusiasts.
The house is situated on over one and a half private acres that have been beautifully landscaped to complement its 200 feet of water frontage. From the expansive porch, guests can take in scenic water views over Hatchet Cove to the Atlantic Ocean—what a perfect way to begin and end each day on vacation. Inside the 2300 square foot sun-filled residence is an open floor plan filled with home-like comforts. The kitchen is spacious enough to fit multiple chefs, so everyone can help prepare satisfying snacks and meals before a day of kayaking or exploring. Feel free to gather around the bench-style dining table for lunches, board games, cards, etc.! Or head to the deck to grill up some fresh BBQ for dinner before watching the sunset over the cove. Don’t forget about the sunroom either—it’s the ideal place to enjoy a warm cup of coffee and savor the stillness of the water in the mornings. Of course, there’s plenty of fun and R & R to be had inside, too; The living room has seating around the fireplace, the media room has a huge flatscreen TV, and the basement even has a pool table!
When it’s time for shut-eye, you can rest in any of the four well-appointed bedrooms. There is a first-floor master suite with deck access and wonderful views of the water. Upstairs are three additional bedrooms with ultra-soft bedding to ensure a good night’s rest.
With the towns of Waldoboro to the northwest and Cushing to the east, there’s always something to do in or around Friendship. A seasonal seafood restaurant, Jameson Point Lobster Company, is just a mile away from the house, serving up fresh lobster for the quintessential Maine experience. A short 10-minute drive will bring you to the 50-acre Martin Point Wildlife Reserve for hiking, bird watching, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Pleasant Point Nature Preserve is also nearby for more hiking and bird watching, and hunting with prior permission. Further out, you’ll find Birch Point Beach State Park—a great place to enjoy a picnic, fish, or swim in a gentle surf. And if you’re looking for a day trip, Portland is only an hour and a half away.
