April 2015Beautiful Place
Had a great stay at the Mountain Club. The Mouintain Club is a group of 10 homes or so with a clubhouse in the town of Cashiers North Carolina. The homes are fractional ownership of 4 or 8 weeks per owner. They were built around 2005 and are very spacious, well maintained, and comfortable. The clubhouse has an outdoor pool and hot tub and a pool table and serve yourself, well stocked honor bar. The desk at the clubhouse is open during business hours and Jane was very helpful arranging golf times, providing suggestions about where to eat, what to do, and providing discount tickets to attractions like the Biltmore estate which is a must see. They also own property at a larger property (Sapphire) across the street that gives Mountain Club owners the right to use their facility which has an indoor pool, rec center with ping pong and billiards. The rec center rents movies. Sapphire has a very small downhill ski hill and a nice restaurant, Mica's. The season in the area is May 1 to October. We were there just before the official season so it was not crowded at all but some restaurants and golf courses were not yet open. We managed to play golf three days at three different courses. The courses are beautiful with views that can stand up to pebble beach or any other course. The cost was very reasonable, about $50 for 18 holes with a cart but prices will double to more normal rates in season. Each day there were no golfers in front of us or behind us and it felt like we had the whole course to ourselves. The town center of Cashiers is a couple miles up the road from the Mountain Club and has a great full size grocery store. The area has miles and miles of beautiful hiking trails with many waterfalls. There is a guide in the house that describes all of the trails. We are not much of a hiking family but we really enjoyed taking a few short hikes to a few waterfalls that were close to the road. We tried to drive to the top of a mountain for a short hike with a reported great view but the dirt road was blocked by a fallen tree and required an exciting 15 point turn to get our SUV turned around and headed back down. I would highly recommend the Mountain Club for a vacation especially if you like hiking and golf.”
