Activities of Interest
- Arts
- Equestrian
- Hike
- Shopping
- Snow Skiing
- Wine Country
- Participate in the Passeggiata. Ortisei has one of the most beautiful pedestrian zones (zona pedonale in Italian) in the Dolomites. Throughout the day, stroll the cobbled streets, window-shop, stop for a coffee, and enjoy the mountain views.
- Go Shopping for Wood Crafts. You probably didn’t come to the Dolomites to shop, but Ortisei has a variety of shops and boutiques carrying local handicrafts, clothing for adults and children, sporting goods, and souvenirs.
- Walk to St. Jacob’s Church. St. Jacob’s Church (German: St. Jakob’s Kirche, Ladin: Dlieja da Sacun, Italian: Chiesetta di San Giacomo) is Val Gardena’s oldest church. It’s located near the little hamlet of San Giacomo, in the hills above Ortisei.
Places of Interest
- Take the Cable Car Up to Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm). On Europe’s largest high alpine meadow, you have a variety of activities available to you, depending on the season you’re visiting.
- Take the Funicular to do the Resciesa Hike. The Dolomites have plenty of cable cars and chair lifts, so it’s fun to head up to the Resciesa hike using a funicular (a little ‘train’ that moves on a track up the mountain).
- Go Skiing. From Ortisei, you can connect easily to the Dolomiti Superski area. Ortisei is a part of the Val Gardena skiing area.

January 2024Wonderful ski vacation
We had a great time in Ortisei and skiing the Sella Ronda. First, the apartment was very well appointed with everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. And while we enjoyed being close enough to town to go on strolls each evening, the apartment was silent and we slept our nights totally undisturbed. The kitchen was well equipped and while we made use of it for breakfasts and one dinner, we ate the rest of our meals out on the ski hill or in town. And the food was amazing! I'm not sure if the skiing or the food was our highlight. Both were topnotch! We are pretty agressive skiers, so we were able to ski the Sella Ronda each day and still have enough time to branch off and explore a different area in greater detail (Alta Badia, Marmalade, and Arabba). And we finished each day off with a Gluwein on the mountain before skiing the run down after lifts closed. The town of Ortisei is very charming with lots of shopping and dining options to enjoy. ”
