Playing the Trump card

During a tour round NE USA this summer, we were lucky enough to secure a week through 3rd Home at Trump International Hotel and Tower, NYC. Number One Central Park West was indeed as impressive as it's address might suggest. From the marble-clad glitz of the lobby, right through to the extensive 2 bedroom suite, we felt veritably 'gold plated' in this stronghold of Republican luxury. The second the key unlocked the door to our suite, our three children (10-12-14) collectively dropped their bags and their jaws. "Class!" shouted one, "Wow!" exclaimed another. Wide-eyed and rampant, they began hurtling around deciding who's room was who's forgetting, as always in the over-excitement, that it was mum and dad who pulled rank on the bedrooms. Unusually though, the inter sibling room bartering never transpired. There were no promises of who rides in which seat of the car next time in exchange for the room with the 50" TV as opposed to the "42", sworn in blood. No exchange of favourite toys for extra floor space like diminutive carpet traders in a Moroccan souk. The rooms were all as sumptuous as each other and everyone was entirely happy with the decree concerning sleeping arrangements that was handed down from the Parents On High. Decorated throughout in contemporary hues of greys and creams with dark teak furniture, the crisp white linens on the beds stood out like Donald's collars amidst a business-like grey flannel suit. The automatic curtain opening and closing button, which we new would be fanatically overused to the point of exhaustion by the kids, revealed superb views over Columbus Circle and Central Park. Although prearranged, were very pleased that our son was not treated as a stowaway given that we were accommodating five in the two bedroom suite. Housekeeping were happy to set him up on the large sofa bed each evening and offered to take it down in the morning, to allow us to use the living space. This was a faultless plan, in theory, had our teenage son not instantly declared Marshall Law in his new quarters. This edict included: 1) that the TV must be on at all times and be no further than a yard from his face 2) that it must show only sport or possibly Pimp My Ride car shows 3) that room service be ordered whenever practicably possible 4) that absolutely no sightseeing be done at any stage during the week 5) that clothes should always be discarded where gravity directed them and, finally, that we as a family shall return to the Trump International Hotel and Tower annually until directed otherwise....”

Gorgeous View, Location, and More

You can't beat the location of this lovely and tasteful 2-bedroom apartment overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park. We enjoyed a week here, with friends from Puerto Vallarta joining us. The staff could not be more accomodating. The hotel staff, from doormen to front desk to the maids, were smiling, friendly, helpful, and ever-present, without being omnipresent. A class act. The apartment is spacious and well-appointed, in a "uniform hotel" manner (it is clearly used as a rental rather than as a personal residence, so it doesn't have the personal touches one expects in a residence). But when I say "hotel manner," I mean luxury hotel. The turn-down service entails such details as lovely linen footmats placed bedside and the obligatory chocolate tidbits. My only complaint would be that the self-promoting Donald (or his image) is inescapable. ”
