Sloth House

Nestled amidst the lush expanse of the Atlantic Forest in Iporanga, Sloth’s House emerges as a harmonious fusion of modern architecture and environmental preservation. It stands as a testament to the profound connection between a sprawling family and their profound reverence for nature, with the hope of catching glimpses of the endearing sloth in its natural habitat.

Spanning 1,300 square meters of rugged terrain, Sloth’s House's design faced a formidable challenge: accommodating an extensive program within the constraints of a minimal footprint. The solution, ingeniously devised, embraced verticality as its guiding principle. Thus, the house unfurls across three distinct levels, each attuned to the contours of the land.

Upon arrival, a striking bridge gracefully traverses the verdant canopy, leading to the elevated platform where the garage and primary entrance find their abode. Here, the architectural composition reveals itself in the form of two interlocking rectangular volumes: the uppermost, a shining yellow metal structure, cradles the first and second floors, while its counterpart, cloaked in raw concrete, harbours the serene sanctuary of the pool and the lofty perch of the third level.

Ascending to the first floor, one encounters the tranquil retreat of the suites, exquisitely nestled within the embrace of nature. The journey continues upward, ascending to the second floor, where the social nucleus of the house unfolds in all its splendour. Here, expansive glass facades beckon the surrounding forest into the heart of the home, illuminating the space with an ethereal glow. Two spacious rooms extend gracefully onto the balcony, offering panoramic vistas that dissolve the boundaries between inside and out.

Central to the design ethos of Sloth’s House is the philosophy of sustainability and eco-conscious living. The soaring atrium of the social area engenders a sense of boundless freedom while facilitating natural light and cross ventilation that obviates the need for artificial climate control. It is a space where the elements of nature coalesce, fostering a sense of serenity and harmony that permeates every aspect of daily life.
