January 2016Best vacation EVER
Bon Vivant was an amazing experience. Imagine having your own private staffed villa/hotel for your family and friends for a full week on the elegant island of Barbados. There are nine ensuite bedrooms all of which have outdoor showers, a real treat in this tropical climate. The property is comprised of four buildings arranged around the pool, which lends privacy to the accommodations. There are numerous amenities including a basketball court, trampoline, shuffleboard, ping pong, etc. The 2+ acre grounds are stunning, with a large vegetable garden, flowering plants and numerous fruit trees; we saw monkeys scampering across the property and up the trees many times. It is but a short -- and very pleasant walk -- to the nearby private beach adjacent to the Sandy Lane Hotel, one of the poshest resorts in the Caribbean, situated on the 'platinum coast' of Barbados. Here the water is usually calm and a gorgeous aqua color, and beach staff prepare your chaises and umbrellas. But the coup de grace is the wonderful staff at Bon Vivant, several of whom have been on site for 15-30 years. From 6AM to 10PM, a staff of six cater to your every whim, preparing healthy and delicious meals -- true 'farm to table -- and mixed tropical drinks of whatever you desire. This is the epitome of gracious vacationing, being cared for by local professionals; mingling with the staff members made us feel more a part of Barbados than we would have otherwise had we been at a large hotel, no matter how nice. I was as sad to leave the staff as I was the opulence of this amazing property. Beth, the owner, was a wealth of information about local eateries and attractions, and I enjoyed chatting with her before and after (to say Thank you over and over again) our stay at Bon Vivant. We will return in a heartbeat if we are ever extended the opportunity. ”
