Description

Bellevue is a newly remodelled plantation estate villa. The villa sits in secluded woods at the end of a modest, unmarked road, a real surprise for those who chance on it unexpectedly. The imposing gates, the many mature trees and sweeping lawns tell you that something special lies beyond. On a ridge overlooking a gully, amidst 3 acres of land, the villa is now surrounded by tall trees, but must have once had a splendid view over Belle Plantation spread out below, hence the name, Bellevue.

The property was known as Anton Hall in the late 18th century and is believed to have been built between 1735 and 1750. Owners over the centuries reflect the classic Barbadian plantation names ' Dowdings, Connells & Collymores. The last owner was Dr. Arno Trieloff who recently sold it to the present owners, who have done a fabulous job of modernizing and providing every luxury, while keeping the traditional Barbadian style.

The original house would have been the square Georgian block so common throughout the British Colonial islands however, the term 'Caribbean Georgian' was coined to describe the many delightful, tropical touches to this style that evolved in the West Indies ' the use of limestone, adding of verandahs and galleries, raising the house over a full basement, imposing exterior stairs, push-out windows and jalousies shutters ' all of which can be seen at Bellevue.

This villa is a great property to be used for events such as weddings, incentive groups and retreats, as there are large entertainment rooms, spacious grounds with large swimming pool and bar area.

As you enter the grounds, you are immediately struck by the grandeur and grace of yesteryear, with a sweeping dual stairway leading to the large, wraparound verandah on the second level, from where guests can take advantage of the spectacular view of the Bridgetown Harbour and countryside and also watch the magnificent sunset while sipping cocktails.

The entrance hall and formal living area with polished wooden floors and several antique pieces is located on the main level of the property. The master suite and 3 guest suites are also on this level. They are all air-conditioned and 3 open onto balconies. On the lower level are 2 further guest suites, a large family room, featuring a mosaic design of the island of Barbados and a study.

There are two large dining tables that are great for elegant dining or holding board meetings. The formal dining room opens on to the dining terrace, unusual bar, casual eating and lounging patio. This patio looks out to the large pool and deck, surrounded by a lush garden and mature trees. A new addition to the property is a cottage on the grounds, providing a further 2 air-conditioned bedrooms.

The villa comes with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, cable TV, Internet, a bar, outdoor dining and an ocean view.

Bellevue is located just 10mins from Bridgetown & south coast beaches and has a lovely view across the Bridgetown Harbour.

Nice old house off the beaten track in Barbardos.

Nice old house. Not very close to the beach. Renters should know that Air conditioning is only in the bedrooms not in the downstairs or upstairs living ares. ”

Everything except Johnny Depp

We so enjoyed our visit to Bellevue. It was like stepping back in time, to something like the Governor's mansion in Pirates of the Carribean... There was open air galore, with more than twenty doors that opened onto the lovely terraces and verandas. The grounds were lovely and impeccably maintained. The three acres includes a pool, and lovely seclusion that made it seem like much more property. With each bedroom air conditioned seperately, we could enjoy the best of all worlds - balmy breezes during the day and cool comfort at night. Everything was perfect, really idyllic. We had a bit of trouble finding it at first, but all was remedied the moment we arrived at the beautiful place! The staff, Sheila, Pauline, Sherifa, and Jualita could not have been any more welcoming. The dinner that awaited us was delicious, and eating al fresco was a delight. The next morning, we were all thrilled to enjoy the home, with the park like setting, wonderful verandas, views, and pool. Everything was so lovely, and we were marveling at how the owners combined old and new in the renovatons. The entire family was so grateful to have this experience. The island and people were wonderful. Gorgeous beaches, good food, and all sorts of water sports available. STRONGLY RECOMMEND BELLEVUE.”
