Description

Feel free to Request A Week anytime.

Recently renovated yet retaining its antique charm, this three-bedroom 4,500 square foot house has a spectacular view in a private wooded setting right on the Hudson River, but is only 90 minutes by car or train from New York City. Enjoy world class dining, mountain biking, rock climbing, summer and winter hiking, horseback riding, boating, the renown Culinary Institute, Hyde Park, Roosevelt and Vanderbilt Homes, world renown Mohonk Mountain Lodge, Buttermilk Falls Inn and Spa, and the hip village of New Paltz. Or just nap by the pool and watch the ships and sailboats go by.

On the main floor of the house are a giant living room with 20-foot ceilings, fireplace, and a Steinway grand piano; formal dining area for 10; a summer living room with an open kitchen and breakfast nook; all of these connected by a recently reconstructed, spectacular 50-ft deck overlooking the Hudson River. On the same level are the 20-ft pool and a verdant patio with comfortable lounging, umbrellas, and dining under the trees. Down below in the walkout basement, also overlooking the river, are ping pong, an antique Brunswick pool table, a card table, and plenty of seating and relaxing.

Upstairs are all the bedrooms. The primary suite looks out onto the river through a giant picture window, has a 4-poster King bed, walk-in closet, sitting area, private bath with shower, dressing counter, and small balcony (not currently for guest use). Bedrooms #2 and #3 have firm Queen beds, the same spectacular river view, and a shared bath with a tub/shower combo. In the basement game room and office adjacent to the master bedroom, you'll find overflow sleeping, and throughout the house you'll enjoy high-quality cotton linens, your choice of down or foam pillows, luxurious winter comforters or all-cotton summer blankets.

Amenities? Absolutely. Asprey shampoos and soaps. High-speed wireless Internet, Apple TV with Netflix, HBO, Hulu, iTunes, and other entertainment portals; firewood, a strong mobile phone signal, complete kitchen appliances, amazingly sharp Japanese knives, charcoal and gas grills, garage, W/D, central air & heat, and door gates for the little ones. Smoke and pet free.

The house is situated off Bellevue Avenue, which, like its name suggests, affords spectacular views of Dutchess County across the Hudson River. Two miles from the village of Highland, a classic small New England hamlet with no Starbucks or Home Depot, it is perfectly situated between mountains and river with quiet countryside all around.

You'll be 5 minutes from the Mid-Hudson Bridge and remarkable Walkway Over the Hudson, the world's longest pedestrian bridge, once the only railway connecting New England to the rest of America, but now a wide jogging, strolling and biking path spanning the river. Within sight are the Culinary Institute of America, FDR home, Vanderbilt mansion, and antique stores. Just 20 minutes away are the world-famous Mohonk Mountain House and fun, kid-friendly Rocking Horse Ranch. And just a little farther are hip Beacon, the U.S Military Academy at West Point, Storm King outdoor sculpture center, DIA Art Foundation and other Hudson Valley destinations. New York City is an easy commute via the train station 15 minutes from the house.

THE VIEW!

My family had a lovely time on our girls trip. We enjoyed the pool and pulled a Romona for the bedrooms. I enjoyed the kitchen and cooked dinner and breakfast. We explored New Paltz, Mohonk and the walking bridge over the Hudson. It did rain one day so we played pool and ping pong in the basement.”

Hudson River Valley

This house provided a prefect location as a base to explore the Hudson River Valley. Directly across the Hudson from FDR home and Vanderbilt homes. Close to West Point, Woodstock and the Catskills. Enjoyed our stay. ”

Spectacular setting!

This very comfortable house has spectacular views of the Hudson River. It was perfectly located for our visits to the lovely towns of New Paltz and Rhinebeck as well as the Culinary Institute of America, which we had a great view of right across the Hudson. Each day we set off for an easy drive to a wonderful destination. We visited Storm King Sulpture Park, DIA Beacon, Val Kill, and FDR's home. The home does need some updating which the owner is aware of and has already started.”
