Black dog cottage is a wonderful home in a quiet and upscale environment close to many vineyards and cycling trails. The house has good vibes , it is relaxing , peaceful. nicely designed and has a great chef kitchen. CLaire was a wonderful host recommending restaurants and places to go . This is a beautiful house and part of the Black Barn Vineyard Estate. A lovely area for food and wine generally, a stones through from Ocean Beach which is fantastic. Played golf at Cape Kidnappers too, which is one of the most amazing golf courses ever... Can't wait to go back when we can travel again!”

The cottage was charmingly decorated, well appointed and quite comfortable. We were very happy coming back to The Black Dog Cottage after our daily adventures and hope to return soon.”

Havelock North a short drive, is a quaint village that offers opportunity for purchasing New Zealand designed wares . We loved it. ”

What a wonderful time we had at this charming house in the gorgeous Tuki Tuki River Valley! Both the owner and the property manager were eminently available, helpful and courteous. The rooms were spacious and lovely, and the kitchen was beautifully appointed. We prepared a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner with local ingredients, and gave thanks in toasts with delicious local wines! The spectacular location was a perfect starting point for tours of numerous wineries, Te Mata Peak, Cape Kidnappers, Waimarama Beach, Napier and Hastings. We all will share fond memories of the special time we spent together here, and we all share a strong desire to return.”

Fantastic Home

Absolutely loved our stay here. The home is practical for either a family or two couples plus a couple of kids, an in-law, out-law or nanny! The layout is superb with a contemporary yet rustic feel to the home, with big high stud ceilings and lots of wood / beams to give in the "barn" ambiance, which is just delightful. Also within easy reach of Havelock North (only a 10 minute drive), and all the best wineries as well - we sampled Black Barn, Craggy Range and Elephant Hill - all exceptional. My loves of trout fishing (I walked to the river bank only a few minutes away where 4-6lb trout lurk !) And golf at Cape Kidnappers is within easy reach as well as Bridge Pa is not too far either. Fantastic array of books, CD's and some DVD's on offer as well. Also has wireless access, if you find yourself wanting it....but I didn't as this was 100% time-out! Highly recommended! Thank You. (PS - There is an all weather tennis court with a couple rackets and balls to use as well, so to be honest a week wasn't really enough). ”
