Description

Lovingly restored, decorated and furnished to a very high standard, The Steading is a stunning rural retreat in a quiet scenic location on a working family-run farm. Steeped in farming history, the property offers luxury accommodation in one of the oldest farm buildings at Legerwood, and provides peace and tranquillity that can be hard to find.

The beautiful open plan living areas feature a really well-appointed kitchen with a large island, perfect for guests to gather and socialise while preparing your meals or sipping a glass of the local whisky. With a fireplace that plays host to nights filled with camaraderie and cheer, the spacious and airy open-plan dining and living space opens onto a raised decking area in the lush and green orchard garden with herbs and fruits suitable for picking when in season. Legerwood has played host to a number of yoga and wellness retreats, using the large open plan area in The Steading, with its stunning, unspoilt country views, to create the perfect space for relaxing workshops.

The Steading's cozy decking area has a grill as well as comfortable wooden lounger seats that surround a round fire pit, ideal for intimate conversations during the fall and winter and toasting in the summer while overlooking the gorgeous nature surrounding The Steading.

Distributed over 3 floors, the 4306 sq. ft. (400m2) property invites guests to live the authentic farm experience, and to enjoy the glorious farm views from every window. With various catering options available by a private chef, a full complement of facilities, personalised activity arrangements and a perfect setting, The Steading is ideal for celebrating a special occasion or family event, and the games room with full sized snooker table and bar will entertain you during your stay at the property.

The dog-friendly property - upon previous authorisation and at an additional charge - features 9 en-suite bedrooms that sleep up to 18 guests, as well as 10 bathrooms with luxurious furnishing. Each bedroom is designed for ultimate comfort, and in addition to the 7 en-suite bedrooms (1 king-sized and 6 super-king or twin), the property boasts an extra large en-suite family room with super-king or twin beds and a single futon bed (suitable for a child). This family room, along with 4 other bedrooms, also have amble space for a travel cot. The 9th bedroom in Steading is the Master Suite which has a large family bathroom including a freestanding bath with a view, a super-king bedroom with stargazing windows and a small separate dressing room with another single futon bed for a child.

Welcoming the four-legged friends too, The Steading has 2 large heated dog kennels for use free of charge, and with prior arrangement dogs may come inside at an additional charge. Loose boxes for horses and paddocks for grazing that are overlooked by the property can be provided upon prior agreement with the Hosts.

Legerwood is the perfect place to stay if guests are wishing to experience the great outdoors by embarking on a variety of country and outdoor pursuits. Cycling in the Borders is a road cyclist’s heaven, and there are also many mountain bike trails. Fishing and horse riding are only few of the many activities the region offers during your stay. Surrounded by a plethora of courses for those wishing to swing a club during their stay, Torwoodlee Golf Club welcomes you to sample the majestic course and experience the warmest of Scottish Borders hospitality. The East Lothian and Northumberland coast are both just over an hour away with a whole host of stunning beaches to explore, as well as an excellent selection of places to sample fresh, local seafood.

For guests who would like to know more about the history and running of our farm, Hosts offer tours during your stay, and depending on the time of year, visits to the lambing shed to feed pet lambs, or a peek into the cattle sheds to see newborn calves may also be possible.

For those keen on history, The Steading is also surrounded by many historical sites and places of interest in the Scottish Borders, not to mention Legerwood Kirk (church) which sits just a short walk from the property and dates back to 1127. The area has 4 picturesque abbey ruins to explore; Jedburgh, Kelso, Dryburgh and Melrose, a small historical town where Rugby 7’s was invented with its Abbey, where Robert the Bruce’s heart was buried.

Being just an hour south of Edinburgh, guests will easily head to Scotland’s capital, one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Boasting a fantastic position, set between the green hills and the hint of the blue sea, with the silhouettes of the buildings and the red cliffs, Edinburgh is also known as the ‘Athens of the North’ by the Scottish people. Listed as a UNESCO Heritage Site, the Old Town is where guests will fascinated by the unique architecture and the hidden corners to discover, as you almost feel like you’re stepping back in time. In contrast, orderly Georgian terraces line the streets of the New Town, with a blend of ancient structures and modern architecture, which gives the city a unique character.

So heavenly!!!!

We didn’t have the tv on while here because the views are soo amazing and tranquil. The residence itself is spectacular!!! The 3rd and 4 generation owners are wonderful. The nearby villages like melrose offer so much. Great walks everywhere. Loved every minute. ”
