October 2023Restful stay in rural Virginia
We had a great visit to Birchwood Estate outside of Leesburg Virginia. The home and grounds are beautiful and extensive, with lots to see and explore in the area. Our hosts were very friendly and even left a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. Thank you again for the wonderful memories!”

July 2023Family Vacation
This property is gorgeous! You feel like you are in a magical story with all the beautiful décor and elegant spaces throughout the home and property. Spending time walking the property, playing in the garden, swinging in the tree, or swimming in the pool will keep you and your family and friends smiling from ear to ear. Our family 4 adults and 4 kids (18months - 8yrs) absolutely enjoyed and will return! The kids loved catching frogs at night and setting around the fire after a day of swimming and chasing each other all around. The adults enjoyed cooking in the gourmet kitchen, bbqing, eating on the patio overlooking the beautiful rolling hills and lush landscape, drinking wine from a local winery by the fireplace and just setting around the home chatting. Not to mention the movie room when it was time to relax. I can go on and on and on..... We absolutely love this property and will return! ”

June 2023Highest standards of a Thirdhome member property
We recently had the pleasure of embarking on a memorable vacation in the charming town of Taylorstown, Virginia. Our stay at Birchwood, a delightful home nestled amidst the rolling countryside, met and exceeded our expectations and provided the perfect setting for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway. Our hosts, Rolf and Pat, were very helpful before, during, and after our stay. Rolf's clearly tried-and-true recommendations make for the perfect itinerary. Birchwood is a shining example of the highest standards of a Thirdhome member property. Upon arriving at Birchwood, we were immediately captivated by its picturesque surroundings. The property boasts an arboretum, offering a tranquil setting where we could immerse ourselves in the beauty of nature. The expansive grounds are exceptionally well maintained. One of the highlights of Birchwood was its delightful vegetable garden, with cows visible in the distance, adding a touch of rustic charm to the experience. With many sitting areas both inside and outside the home, we found ample space, whether we were lounging in the cozy living room, enjoying a meal in the spacious dining area, or around the fire pit in the evening. There is of course a well-equipped kitchen and BBQ. Nearby Leesburg proved to be an enchanting destination. From the historic charm of downtown, where we took a short guided tour as we strolled along King Street and explored the storied history of the area, to unique shops and boutiques. The captivating vineyards and wineries, such as Tarara Winery and Stone Tower Winery, among some 80 others, showcased the rich heritage and natural beauty of Virginia wine country. We found many we thoroughly enjoyed. The cabernet franc propagated here stands astutely among even those from Bordeaux. In terms of dining, our taste buds were continually delighted by the array of culinary experiences the nearby areas had to offer. From the farm-to-table delights of Tuscarora Mill to the historic ambiance and delectable cuisine of The Red Fox Inn & Tavern, each meal was a treat for the senses. We highly recommend a stay at Birchwood. Thanks again to Rolf and Pat for including their fine home in the Thirdhome program.”
