The Historic Watermelon Est. 1890

Welcome to The Watermelon!

This beautifully restored historic home dates back to 1890 and is the oldest home in the Summer Haven neighborhood. Waterfront, you and your loved ones are sure to enjoy the dock, private beach area, and relaxing pool and lounge.

Perfect for family reunions and vacations, this 6 bedroom, 7.5 bath home provides a resort-style refuge filled with all the comforts of home.

Being built as an inn in 1890 and then expanded by the Mellon Family shows that it has a rich history and has been enjoyed by many people over the years. Knowing that the Mellon Family hosted notable Hollywood friends also adds to the allure of the property. It's amazing to think about the famous people who may have walked the halls and enjoyed the same charm and luxury that guests can experience today.

The Watermelon is both a historic property and a luxurious and thoughtfully designed vacation rental. The resort-inspired atmosphere and carefully appointed furnishings are sure to provide guests with a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The themed rooms with modern touches are charming and add a unique and memorable element to the experience.

Outdoor amenities like a private pool, hot tub/spa, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, grill, and an outdoor living area, leave guests with plenty of options for relaxation and recreation. The outdoor living area's design, reminiscent of a French Polynesia bungalow, adds a touch of exoticism and allows guests to feel like they are truly getting away from it all.

Bedroom configurations include:

Master Suite: King bed, amazing water views, private covered porch & full luxury bath
Cary Grant Bedroom: Tranquil, Sea-inspired, Queen bed
Gary Cooper Suite: Nautical theme, queen bed, daybed, private bath, access to spacious covered porch
Lewis Suite: King bed, sitting area, covered porch, ocean/river views, and full luxury bath

St. Augustine is a historic city on the northeast coast of Florida, and it is known for its Spanish colonial architecture, beautiful beaches, and rich history. There are plenty of things to see and do in the area, such as visiting the historic Castillo de San Marcos, exploring the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, taking a stroll through the historic district, or enjoying some of the local seafood. Additionally, there are several state parks and nature reserves nearby that offer opportunities for hiking, kayaking, and other outdoor activities.

Amazing Stay

This house is really a terrific blend of historical preservation but updated for contemporary living. We were there with our immediate family (about 10 of us) had a wonderful time. Amy is super responsive and really a great host. We came from the West coast (so it's a haul) but totally worth the effort!!!”
