Description

Leobo Private Reserve

The Ultimate All-Inclusive African Experience.

This is NOT a Big 5 African safari but instead offers an incredible authentic African adventure for those that are not too bothered about big cats and game.

Leobo Private Reserve is a completely private 20,000-acre estate based in the beautiful malaria-free Waterberg mountains, 3 hours drive north of Johannesburg and home to the award-winning 'Observatory Bush Villa.'

Designed by Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, it is probably the most stunning safari house in Africa from an architectural and style perspective and is a fantastic home for families and small groups.

The Observatory is a remarkable stone and glass house with lustrous copper features, the most outstanding of which is the huge dome housing a research grads observatory. Tucked under these cones is the two-story library with an open fireplace.

The house accommodates a maximum of nine people (six adults and three children), with two luxury bedrooms and luxurious bathrooms with baths, showers, and massage beds. A triple bunk room leads to a separate guest room for a nanny; this self-contained nursery space has a separate bathroom and kitchenette. All the furnishings have been custom-made with local materials by experienced craftsmen from local African communities.

There are 8 additional bedrooms that can be rented out too sleeping upto 16 more if your group is larger than 9.

The astounding expanse of the living area allows guests to enjoy the view, sit by the fireplace, or dine under an immense hippo-skeleton chandelier; a mezzanine level above provides an entertainment space for TV or games.

Outside, the deck with covered veranda leads to a heated infinity pool which blends in beautifully with its natural surroundings.

For a "James Bond in the Bush" experience, take the flight of stairs leading to the sunset deck for a drink where you can soak in the Jacuzzi whilst looking at the stars. All this without the intrusion of strangers and no restricting time schedule.

Owned by an English family as their private home and only recently available on a limited basis to others, the reserve is offered on an exclusive basis only. You don't share it with any other guests; it's your playground for the duration of your stay.

Food and beverages are attended to by a renowned gourmet chef and attending butler.

You also have full use of all the toys on the reserve, including thermal imaging for night-time game viewing, four quad bikes, two racing quad bikes, a Polaris cross-country buggy, kayaks, fishing, horses, game drive vehicles, and a helicopter that can also pick you up from Pretoria or Johannesburg airports.

We don't offer timetabled wildlife drives, rigid programs, or meals at set times. Of course, you can go on wildlife drives whenever you like, day or night – whenever suits you. But Leobo Reserve is for people who want a bit more out of life than a bunch of Kodak shots of the Big Five. You can literally do anything if you like. Just ask.

Spending time there is a real adventure, which is so hard to find nowadays.

We'll allow you to enjoy a life experience you'll be talking about for years to come.

There is an additional lodge and further accommodation for up to 16. THIRDHOME groups of 10+ are able to rent the additional rooms they need at a 50% discount. For more information, please click here:

A discretionary tip at the end of your stay in line with the services you have received would be greatly appreciated by the staff.

All of the toys at Leobo are there for you to enjoy at your own risk. Neither we, nor THIRDHOME, take any responsibility whatsoever for any injuries sustained while using any of this equipment.

We would highly recommend taking the helicopter from Johannesburg to Leobo. It can stay with you for the duration of your trip and is very useful for game drives and seeing some of the sites that are a little further afield. If you would like to take up this option, please let us know. The transfer time from Johannesburg to Leobo is one hour, and the helicopter can seat five people with a standard amount of luggage.

Absolute Perfection

Leobo is breathtaking - it’s nothing short of magic. This was an experience that my family and I will remember for the rest of our lives. The property, the setting, the activities and - most of all - the staff make Leobo a true slice of Heaven. Thank you so much Rory for allowing us to stay in your incredible home!”

Leobo is one of a kind. It stands tall in the hills amongst the most magnificent backdrop and each corner of the reserve is a delight. From the stunning interiors of the house with everything catered for, to the breathtaking views from the pool and roof deck. The most amazing Vacation ever

Leobo is an absolute 5 star experience. The reserve is massive and equipped with all the beautiful animals you’d expect. The staff is that of a luxury hotel experience. They wait on you hand and foot. James the manager and guide was always talking us on game drives , quad biking, shooting, and other incredible activities. The Chef and his cuisine is Michelin quality. I can’t say enough amazing things. We will be back!! ”
