Places of Interest
- Château de Saint-Maurice. As if watching over the Rhone, the Castle of St. Maurice stands at the foot of one of the last mountains just before the Rhone flows into Lake Geneva.
- Abbaye de Saint-Maurice. The Saint-Maurice Abbey in Valais was built as a place of martyrdom 1500 years ago.
- Col de Coux. The Col de Cou forms the border between Switzerland and France here and was particularly popular with smugglers in the early 20th century.

February 2024Amazing Location! Fantastic Home! Remarkable!
You could not ask for a better location to ski/bike/hike Les Portes du Soleil and just cruise around the Swiss and French Alps. It's 1.5 hours from Geneva Airport, 2.5 from Zurich, and you can even get there from Milan (that drive is AMAZING - up and over the alps - and totally worth it!!!!). Set in the valley, just below Champery, it's an easy 6 minute drive up the road to the Grand Paradis chair. Nobody parks there so it's super easy to come and go and the chair gets you to the high altitude skiing FAST. Plus, there's no reason to take the tram where they charge Euro5 to park and the tram is a hassle and crowded). The apartment itself is BIG - with four good bedrooms - and 3.5 baths - and comfortable with a good kitchen, easy dining area, good living room couch. The beds, linens, oversized pillows, and towels are good quality. There were 7 of us and we fit in nicely. This place also really works for day trips to tons of other alpine valleys / major ski/bike/hiking spots. We did the big day trip to Chamonix - onto the glacier on Mont Blanc up the Aiguille du Midi telepherique - it's only 1.25 hours - and WOW! You can also get to Verbier and others. Today's reality for Americans in particular is that skiing In the Rockies/Western USA has become so expensive that makes skiing the alps such a better deal. The flight is a bit more, but the cost of lift tickets and food and car rentals is so much less, and if you do a third home with this place, you have hit a HOME RUN! Nainan is also a great host. Super easy going and communication is easy. All in all - you cannot go wrong hanging out at this place! ”
